Define Ext (also known as DefineExt) is classified as a potentially unwanted program and can be considered a browser hijacker and malware program.
Upon download, Define Ext installs an extension or add-on into Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, and Internet Explorer. This toolbar is typically bundled alongside software you can get for free like VLC Player, WinZip, or WinRar and installed very discreetly.
Once the Define Ext malware is installed on your computer, it will begin injecting advertisements into your browser either immediately or after a certain amount of time has elapsed. The advertisements will be displayed in a variety of different forms such as highlighted text ads, display banners, popups, and coupons or deals.
Define Ext will display ads on most websites like YouTube.com, eBay.com, and Yahoo.com and interfere with your normal browsing experience. The display banners injected onto these sites will have a small disclosure that reads “ads by Define Ext”, such as in the screenshot below.

- Select the add-on you wish to disable
- Click ‘Remove’ button
- Click Restart now if the option is available.
Remove ads by Define Ext for Google Chrome
- Open the Chrome menu on the top right hand side of the browser.
- Click on Tools
- Click on Extensions
- Click on the trash can icon next to each extension
- Click Remove on the popup dialog
Remove ads by Define Ext for Internet Explorer
- Click the Tools button and click on Manage add-ons
- Under Show, click on All add-ons, and then do one of the following
- Click on Disable for each add-on
MANUALLY REMOVE ADS BY DEFINE EXT MALWARE
- Open the start menu, and open the control panel
- Click uninstall a program
- Find Define Ext from the list
- Right click and select Uninstall/remove
